FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ: FAQ

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO ACCESS YOUR SERVICES?

No, you do not need a referral to access my services, you can simply contact me to set up an appointment. However, if you wish to access funding through Medicare Australia or private health funds, you may need a referral. If you have any questions about how this works, please feel welcome to contact me.

HOW LONG IS YOUR USUAL SESSION TIME?

A standard session for an initial appointment or ongoing therapy session is 50 minutes. However if you have specific requirements or if you need a longer assessment this may be longer or shorter in specific circumstances.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE FOR SESSIONS?

This will depend on your circumstances and the nature of the appointment. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more about our rates for different services.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST SESSION?

I will ask you to complete some paperwork before the first session so that we can use our time together most effectively. The first session is a time for us to get to know each other, and to determine the nature of what you're seeking help for. Then together we can formulate a plan on how we will work together. It's also a chance for you ask any questions and to decide whether us working together is the best fit for you. You should leave your first session with some goals to work towards and some strategies to help you.

WHICH TYPES OF CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?

I work with adults, adolescents and children with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, adjustment, transitions, attachment, relationships, major life changes or stressors, grief, trauma, behavioural difficulties, substance use and more. If you are unsure if I can help you please feel welcome to contact me for a discussion of whether or how I can help you. If I don't feel that I will be the best fit for you, I will try to recommend you another appropriate service.

WHAT TYPES OF THERAPEUTIC APPROACH DO YOU USE?

I use a range of different therapeutic approaches, depending on the concerns that you have.  Many of the strategies I use fall under the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) umbrella, which are supported by a large body of evidence and research.  The approaches I use include Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  These are structured approaches but also very much tailored to the individual. We will formulate an individualised plan together. I also frequently use other strategies such as mindfulness. I'm also very passionate about using an attachment based approach to help parents in understanding their relationship with their child.  I use a range of other assessment and therapeutic approaches in specific situations, as every situation requires a tailored approach.
